Zimacs is a desktop text editor I wrote from scratch in Zig. It handles large files, highlights 20 languages, and runs on Linux and Windows. There's a browser version too, so you can try it without installing anything.

It started in 2024 as a weekend experiment that could load a font and read a file. In 2026 I turned it into a real editor: tabs, find and replace, a command palette, themes, and sessions that bring your unsaved work back after a restart. It doubles as a notes app, with links between Markdown files and a graph of how your notes connect.

Releases install with one command and update themselves. macOS isn't supported yet. Try it at zimacs.iwhitebird.com.
